Teglkroen will become Det’ Dan’sk in October 2025.
The place continues the Danish tradition of smørrebrød, which the teglkroen has been known for since 1939.
The restaurant is centrally located in Copenhagen and is well-visited by many local regulars.

In the early years, Det’ Dan’sk was a simple artisan tavern, which over the years has also been a regular refuge for local residents.
During the 1930s and 1940s, the licensing police closed many of these small taverns. But the place survived.

Today, there are still many local and regular customers in the restaurant. But it is also a tourist attraction for foreign guests who want to experience a classic Danish lunch.

The story behind Det’ Dan’sk

The name is known from 1563 in the form “Thegelgaard strede”

This refers to the fact that from the Reformation period there was a brickworks (a brickyard) with an associated clay pit near the street. Both an old and a new brickyard are mentioned in the neighborhood, but the brick production had moved no later than around 1600. The building has housed a restaurant since 1939.

In its first years, Teglkroen was a simply furnished artisan tavern, which over the years has also been a regular refuge for local residents. Unlike other taverns from the 1930s and 1940s, the place survived undisturbed because Teglkroen’s stable clientele, together with the tenant, kept the local prostitutes out, so that the licensing police had nothing to do with the place.

In 2025, Dan Adelkvist bought it and renamed it Det’ Dan’sk. He will continue the Danish tradition when he opens in October 2025.
